Do LED melt snow?

So we know that the cool burning LED traffic lights do not melt snow such as the ones in Philedephia. On a snowy day, you may find a firefighter clearing the LED traffic lights.

Then why would anyone living in snowy America want to switch to LED landscape lighting? Isn't it pointless if there are 2 feet of snow and the LED path light is buried in snow?

LED light fixtures create light much more efficiently than incandescent which mean there is less heat generated. Although LED light fixtures will never generate the amount of heat that an incandescent or halogen will, the Kichler LED accent fixtures will still effectively melt snow. Kichler uses the housing to heat-sink the LED; even at -20°C (-4°F) the surface of the fixture will be approximately +15°C (+60°F).

Glow in the Dark WAC Lighting Glass Pendants

Not too long ago, James's Pacific Northwest Glass Studio created a luminescent glass that charges up when exposed to light. This glass glows for up to six hours after the light is turned off. You can see some of this work thru WAC Lighting. These Quick Connect Pendants are hand crafted, mouth blown art glass.

On the left here is Mojo (G968-OR). When lit up, it has an intense orange glow with amber lip. When the Moji is glowing in the dark, it glows soft green with blue edge.

Another crafty glow in the dark pendant is Yu (G963-GJ). When lit, you can see the subtle optic twist. Within minutes of charging with the light on, you can turn off the QC Pendant and watch it glowing in a rich blue green appearance.

To order WAC Lighting Glow in the Dark Quick Connect Pendants, visit Savio Lighting's Boston lighting showroom or call 1-888-818-8618 for best pricing.

Chinese New Year 2011 - Year of the Rabbit

The Chinese New Year  is among the very few unique events that are celebrated around the world on quite an impressive magnitude. Just like in previous years, the 2011 Chinese New Year celebration (Feb 3, 2011) is an occasion that is expected to make quite an impact to a lot of people , both Chinese and non-Chinese alike.  The ways in which it is usually celebrated are interestingly colorful , exotic, symbolic and a lot of fun for everyone involved.

What’s worth noting about the 2011 Chinese New Year?

The Year of the Rabbit

The Chinese astrology is known for its twelve animal sign rotating cycle with each animal sign assigned to a year and representing a particular type of personality. One animal is designated for each year: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. In general, you will know which animal sign you belong depending on your birth year following the Chinese calendar and not the Gregorian calendar (starts on January). In particular, the exact hour, day and month of birth may vary your Chinese astrological animal sign. Those born during the year of a certain animal were believed to share some of the qualities and characteristics of that animal.

What is said about the Year of the Rabbit?

They say that the year of the cool and gentle rabbit has arrived. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are said to be eloquent, talented, and ambitious. They are upright, cool, and their tastes are excellent. They are admirable, trustworthy, and are usually financially lucky. With much gracefulness and peace-loving nature, the Rabbit brings a great deal of welcomed time of trouble-free days, comfortable living, and simply an easy life. Everyone is on their best demeanor while enjoying a lax time. No more stiff rules and regulations, and all things not so pleasant are put on hold. Thus, the 2011 Chinese New Year is a good time for those burnt by the Tiger’s claws to lick their wounds, lay back and enjoy the serenity.
Who wouldn’t want to be comfortable and peaceful? Come and enjoy the calmness that the Year of the Rabbit brings to all, regardless of the zodiac sign.

To decorate with the Chinese zodiac for the Year of the Rabbit, visit Savio Lighting's Boston lighting showroom or online at saviolighting.com for bunny lamps. These rabbit lamps are hand made Oriental porcelain lamps.

Behind Tiffany Lamps

Nautilus Lamp - One of Tiffany's first lamps
Louis Comfort Tiffany was not just the creator of Tiffany Lamps, but he was a renowned interior designer. In 1881, Tiffany did the interior design of the Mark Twain House in Hartford, CT. When Tiffany made name for himself, he was commissioned to redo the White House.

Eventually, Louis Comfort Tiffany concentrated on the art of glass and established his own glassmaking firm, Tiffany Studios. Tiffany Studios produced many Tiffany stained glass windows such as the First Presbyterian Church building of 1905 in Pittsburgh, PA. Early Tiffany lamps were exhibited in the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.

Do you wonder if Louis Comfort Tiffany has any relations with Tiffany & Co? Indeed, Louis Comfort Tiffany is the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the founder of Tiffany & Co. In 1902, Louis Comfort Tiffany became the first Design Director for Tiffany and Co.

Owning an authentic Tiffany lamp may not be a piece of cake. However, there are many Tiffany-style lamps that are readily available. If you would like to see Tiffany's collection, visit the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park, FL. This museum houses the most comprehensive collection of Tiffany's work. To purchase a Tiffany style lamp, visit Savio Lighting's Boston lighting showroom or online at saviolighting.com.
