Wall Street Money Never Sleeps

Wall Street Money Never Sleeps is  where you will find Holtkotter lamps. I haven't watched this movie yet; but I did spot 2 Holtkotter Halogen Table Lamp 6232 behind Michael Douglas' desk on the movie's photo gallery. I heard the Holtkotter Halogen Torchiere 2573 is in the movie too. When I have the time to go watch it, I rather be staring at Shia LaBeouf than go scan for Holtkotter lights!

If you're not from Wall Street, you can still own a Holtkotter lamp by ordering from saviolighting.com or visit Savio Lighting's Boston lighting showroom.

Chili goes LED!

One of the biggest LED roll outs on US soil. All 827 Chili's restaurants will be rolled out with LED lamps. Perhaps, Magianno's will be next since Magianno's and Chili's is owned by the same parent company.

Light fixtures with LED are becoming ever more popular. You can own LED pendants or LED T4 nowadays without much effort.

Downlighting vs Uplighting

Downlighting is most common, with fixtures on or recessed in the ceiling casting light downward. This tends to be the most used method, used in both offices and homes. Although it is easy to design it has dramatic problems with glare and excess energy consumption due to large number of fittings.

Uplighting is less common, often used to bounce indirect light off the ceiling and back down. It is commonly used in lighting applications that require minimal glare and uniform general illuminance levels. Uplighting uses a diffuse surface to reflect light in a space and can minimize glare on computer displays and other dark glossy surfaces. It gives a more uniform presentation of the light output in operation. However indirect lighting is completely reliant upon the reflectance value of the surface. While indirect lighting can create a diffused and shadow free light effect it can be regarded as an uneconomical lighting principle.

Light bulb tea kettle

Why ban the 100w incandescent light bulb? It's very inefficient. To prove a point, the heat that it emits can bring water to 90 degrees. There was a project that proves that the inefficiency of the 100w bulb can heat a tea kettle to 90 degrees.

Imagine how much heat is emitted with a room full of incandescent light bulbs. It may be great for the winter months; but during the summer months, the AC or ceiling fan would be fighting the heat emitted from your light fixtures. What a waste of energy!

Be aware of how to handle broken light bulbs that contain mercury

As we all know, CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) and fluorescents contain mercury. With that in mind, some thought should be considered on where to use them if you have infants, small children and/or pets. Avoid using light bulbs that contain mercury where there is a high risk breakage.

Broken mercury light bulbs should be properly cleaned up. It is not recommended to vacuum the breakage. Best to use stiff papers (index card) to scoop the broken light bulb and place the debris into the glass jar. If the light bulb is broken on carpet, it is recommend to cut out that section of the carpet if you have infants, small children and/or pets.
